Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) Antibody IgA (Offer)

The Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) Antibody IgA (Offer) test is a blood test primarily used to help diagnose Celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by the consumption of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The test measures IgA antibodies directed against the enzyme tissue transglutaminase (tTG). In individuals with celiac disease, the immune system mistakenly produces these antibodies when gluten is consumed, leading to damage of the small intestine.

The tTG IgA test is commonly recommended for individuals experiencing symptoms such as chronic diarrhea or constipation, abdominal bloating, excessive gas, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and iron deficiency anemia. It is considered the preferred initial screening test for celiac disease due to its high sensitivity and specificity. A blood sample is collected for analysis, and results are interpreted along with the patient’s symptoms, medical history, total IgA levels, and, if necessary, an intestinal biopsy for confirmation. Early diagnosis through the tTG IgA test enables timely adoption of a gluten-free diet, helping prevent intestinal damage, nutritional deficiencies, and long-term complications associated with celiac disease.
