TB GOLD INTERFERON GAMMA RELEASE ASSAY (IGRA) (LPL)

The TB Gold Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) (LPL) test is a blood test used to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes tuberculosis (TB). It is based on the Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) method, which measures the amount of interferon-gamma released by white blood cells in response to TB-specific antigens. Unlike the traditional Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), the TB Gold test is more specific and is not affected by prior BCG vaccination, making it a reliable screening tool for tuberculosis infection.

This test is commonly recommended for individuals who have been exposed to tuberculosis, healthcare workers, people with weakened immune systems, or those with symptoms such as a persistent cough, fever, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, and fatigue. The TB Gold IGRA test helps detect latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and supports the diagnosis of active tuberculosis. A positive result indicates TB infection but cannot distinguish between latent and active TB on its own, so additional investigations such as a chest X-ray or sputum examination may be required for confirmation and appropriate treatment planning.
