The Phosphorous (Serum) test measures the level of phosphorus in the blood. Phosphorus is an essential mineral that works closely with calcium and vitamin D to maintain healthy bones and teeth, support energy production, and ensure proper muscle, nerve, and cell function. This test helps evaluate the body’s mineral balance and is commonly used to assess kidney function, parathyroid gland disorders, and bone metabolism.

The Phosphorous (NHC) test is recommended for individuals with bone pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, kidney disease, abnormal calcium levels, or suspected metabolic or hormonal disorders. It is also useful for diagnosing conditions such as chronic kidney disease, hypoparathyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, malnutrition, and vitamin D-related disorders. Results are typically interpreted together with calcium, parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D, and kidney function tests to provide a comprehensive assessment of mineral metabolism. At Nidan Pathology Lab, we provide NABL-accredited testing, FREE home sample collection, advanced laboratory technology, and accurate, timely reports to support the diagnosis and management of bone, kidney, and endocrine disorders.

Phosphorous (NHC) Test-

What is the Phosphorous (Serum) test?
The Phosphorous (Serum) test is a blood test that measures the level of phosphorus in the bloodstream. Phosphorus is an essential mineral that supports bone health, energy production, and normal muscle and nerve function.
The test is performed to evaluate phosphorus levels, assess kidney function, diagnose bone and metabolic disorders, and monitor calcium, vitamin D, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) balance.
The test is recommended for individuals with bone pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, kidney disease, abnormal calcium levels, or suspected parathyroid or metabolic disorders, as advised by a healthcare provider.
Fasting is generally not required, unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider or laboratory.
High phosphorus levels may indicate chronic kidney disease, hypoparathyroidism, or other metabolic disorders, while low phosphorus levels may suggest malnutrition, vitamin D deficiency, hyperparathyroidism, or malabsorption disorders. Results are usually interpreted along with calcium, PTH, vitamin D, and kidney function tests.
The test helps maintain bone health, assess mineral balance, diagnose kidney and endocrine disorders, guide treatment decisions, and monitor ongoing therapy for metabolic bone diseases.
