Histone antibodies (L)

The Histone Antibodies (L) test is a blood test that detects antibodies against histone proteins, which are commonly associated with drug-induced Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and certain autoimmune connective tissue disorders. Histone antibodies are found in a high percentage of patients with drug-induced lupus and may also be present in some individuals with idiopathic (naturally occurring) lupus and other autoimmune diseases. This test helps healthcare providers identify the underlying cause of lupus-like symptoms and differentiate drug-induced lupus from other autoimmune conditions.

The Histone Antibodies test is recommended for individuals experiencing joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, unexplained fever, fatigue, or other symptoms suggestive of lupus, particularly if they have a history of taking medications known to trigger drug-induced lupus.
