Genexpert MTB/RIF Resistance(Pulmonary) (L)

The Genexpert MTB/RIF Resistance (Pulmonary) (L) test is an advanced molecular diagnostic test that rapidly detects the Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex DNA and identifies Rifampicin resistance, one of the key indicators of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). The test uses real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) with melt peak detection technology to identify the genetic material of the bacteria. It can detect members of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, including M. tuberculosis, M. africanum, M. bovis, M. canettii, M. microti, M. caprae, and M. pinnipedii, while simultaneously determining Rifampicin susceptibility.

This test is recommended for individuals with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis, persistent cough, or those at risk of drug-resistant TB. Suitable specimens include sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), body fluids, aspirates, pus, or fresh tissue biopsies, depending on the clinical presentation. The Genexpert MTB/RIF test provides rapid and reliable results, enabling early diagnosis, prompt initiation of appropriate anti-tuberculosis therapy, and improved infection control. The results should always be interpreted together with clinical findings and other laboratory investigations for accurate diagnosis and effective patient management.
