The Gastrointestinal Panel by FilmArray (BioFire) – Stool (M) is a comprehensive multiplex molecular diagnostic test designed to rapidly detect a wide range of bacterial, viral, and parasitic pathogens that cause gastrointestinal infections. Using advanced FilmArray (BioFire) PCR technology, the test simultaneously identifies multiple disease-causing organisms from a single stool sample, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis than conventional culture methods. This helps clinicians quickly determine the cause of infectious diarrhea and initiate appropriate treatment.

The test is recommended for individuals experiencing acute diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever, or suspected infectious gastroenteritis, particularly when symptoms are severe, persistent, or associated with dehydration. For optimal results, a stool sample collected in Cary-Blair transport media is preferred. Patients should avoid using antacids, antidiarrheal medications, or oily laxatives before specimen collection whenever possible. The stool sample should not be contaminated with urine or collected from a bedpan.
