D – DIMER QUANTITATIVE [H134] (NHC)

The D-Dimer Quantitative [H134] (NHC) test is a blood test that measures the level of D-dimer, a protein fragment produced when a blood clot is broken down in the body. It is widely used to help diagnose conditions associated with abnormal blood clot formation and fibrinolysis, including Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), Pulmonary Embolism (PE), and Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC). When interpreted together with clinical findings and imaging studies, a normal D-dimer level has a high negative predictive value for ruling out DVT and PE in appropriately selected patients.

The D-Dimer Quantitative test is recommended for individuals with symptoms suggestive of blood clots, such as leg swelling, chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained bleeding, as well as for evaluating suspected DIC. Elevated D-dimer levels may also occur in recent surgery, trauma, hematoma, pregnancy, liver disease, inflammation, malignancy, and other hypercoagulable states, so results should always be interpreted in the context of the patient’s medical history and clinical presentation. This test plays an important role in the early detection of thrombotic disorders, guiding further investigations, and supporting timely treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications.
