CRP, C-Reactive Protein (Qualitative) (NHC)

The CRP, C-Reactive Protein (Qualitative) (NHC) test is a blood test used to detect the presence of C-Reactive Protein (CRP), a protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation, infection, or tissue injury. The qualitative CRP test determines whether CRP is present above the normal range, helping healthcare providers identify ongoing inflammatory processes in the body. Since CRP is a non-specific marker of inflammation, it does not identify the exact cause but indicates that further evaluation may be required.

The CRP (Qualitative) test is commonly recommended for individuals with symptoms such as fever, chills, pain, swelling, redness, fatigue, or suspected bacterial infections and inflammatory disorders. It is also useful in evaluating conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and other inflammatory disorders, as well as monitoring the response to treatment. Elevated CRP levels may indicate acute or chronic inflammation, bacterial infections, tissue injury, or other inflammatory conditions. Because CRP is a non-specific marker, the results should always be interpreted together with the patient’s symptoms, medical history, physical examination, and additional laboratory investigations.
