The Anti dsDNA Antibody, EIA test is a blood test that detects antibodies against double-stranded DNA (dsDNA), which are highly specific markers for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Introduction:
ds-DNA Antibody is detected in patients with active SLE and approximately 20% of patients with Mixed connective tissue disease.
The Anti dsDNA Antibody, EIA test detects antibodies against double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) in the blood. These autoantibodies are highly specific for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and are commonly associated with active lupus disease. The test is also useful in evaluating certain other autoimmune connective tissue disorders.
Purpose of the Test:
- Help diagnose Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
- Assess disease activity in patients with lupus.
- Monitor the response to lupus treatment.
- Evaluate autoimmune connective tissue disorders.
- Support diagnosis when performed with ANA and other autoimmune markers.
Symptoms:
- Persistent joint pain and swelling.
- Butterfly-shaped facial rash or other skin rashes.
- Unexplained fever and chronic fatigue.
- Mouth ulcers or hair loss.
- Kidney problems, chest pain, or photosensitivity.
Normal Range:
- Negative: No detectable Anti-dsDNA antibodies (normal result).
- Positive: Presence of Anti-dsDNA antibodies may indicate Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) or, less commonly, other autoimmune connective tissue diseases.
- Reference values vary depending on the laboratory method (EIA). Results should always be interpreted together with ANA, complement (C3/C4), clinical findings, and other autoimmune test results.
