AFB Speciation (MOTT) Additional species by Hains Line Probe Assay - Pure culture (M)

The AFB Speciation (MOTT) Additional Species by Hains Line Probe Assay – Pure Culture (M) test is a specialized molecular diagnostic test used to identify Mycobacteria Other Than Tuberculosis (MOTT) from a pure culture. The test uses the Hain Line Probe Assay (LPA), a molecular technique that detects species-specific genetic markers, enabling rapid and accurate identification of additional non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) species. Accurate species identification is important because different mycobacterial species may require different treatment approaches.

This test is recommended when a pure culture of acid-fast bacilli (AFB) has already been isolated and further species identification is required. An isolated colony on a culture plate is used for analysis. The results help clinicians differentiate tuberculosis from non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, guide appropriate antimicrobial therapy, support effective patient management, and improve treatment outcomes when interpreted alongside clinical findings and other laboratory investigations.
