AFB Rapid Culture by MGIT - Sputum (M)

The AFB Rapid Culture by MGIT – Sputum (M) test is a specialized microbiology test used to detect Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB), particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis, in a sputum sample. The test uses the Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) system, an advanced liquid culture method that promotes the rapid growth and detection of mycobacteria, allowing earlier diagnosis than conventional culture techniques.

This test is commonly recommended for individuals with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) or persistent respiratory symptoms. A 2 mL sputum sample collected in a sterile, leak-proof container is required for testing.
