AFB Rapid culture by MGIT - Other (M)

The AFB Rapid Culture by MGIT – Other (M) test is a specialized microbiology test used to detect Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB), particularly Mycobacterium tuberculosis, from clinical specimens that are not covered under routine sample categories. The test uses the Mycobacterial Growth Indicator Tube (MGIT) system, an advanced liquid culture method that enables rapid growth and detection of mycobacteria, providing faster results than conventional culture techniques.

This test is recommended when tuberculosis or other mycobacterial infections are suspected in non-routine clinical specimens, as determined by the treating physician. Depending on the suspected site of infection, an appropriate sterile specimen is collected and processed using the MGIT culture system.
