URIC ACID, Serum (Offer)

The Uric Acid, Serum (Offer) test is a blood test that measures the level of uric acid in the bloodstream. Uric acid is a waste product formed when the body breaks down substances called purines, which are naturally present in the body and in certain foods. Normally, uric acid is filtered by the kidneys and eliminated through urine. However, when the body produces too much uric acid or the kidneys are unable to remove it efficiently, the level in the blood increases, which can lead to gout, kidney stones, and other metabolic disorders.

The Serum Uric Acid test is commonly recommended for individuals with joint pain, swelling, redness, recurrent gout attacks, kidney stones, or suspected kidney disease. It is also useful for monitoring patients receiving treatment for gout, hyperuricemia, or certain kidney disorders. Elevated uric acid levels may indicate hyperuricemia, which is associated with gout, kidney stones, reduced kidney function, and certain metabolic conditions. Low uric acid levels are less common but may occur in some liver disorders or other medical conditions. The test results should always be interpreted along with the patient’s symptoms, medical history, kidney function tests, and other laboratory findings to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Early detection and proper management of abnormal uric acid levels help prevent joint damage, kidney complications, and improve long-term health.
