The TORCH Panel, IgG & IgM (Offer) is a comprehensive blood test used to detect antibodies against a group of infections that can cause serious complications, particularly during pregnancy and in newborn babies. TORCH stands for Toxoplasmosis, Other infections (such as Syphilis and Hepatitis B), Rubella, Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). The test measures both IgM antibodies, which indicate a recent or active infection, and IgG antibodies, which suggest a past infection or immunity.
The TORCH Panel is commonly recommended during pregnancy, before planning pregnancy, or for newborns suspected of congenital infections. These infections may increase the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, birth defects, developmental delays, hearing loss, and vision problems if transmitted during pregnancy. A blood sample is collected to evaluate the immune response against these infections. The results help healthcare providers diagnose current or previous infections, assess the risk to the mother and baby, and determine the need for further evaluation or treatment. Early detection through the TORCH Panel supports timely medical intervention and improves maternal and fetal health outcomes.
