The AFB Identification & Speciation MTB and MOTT by Hains Line Probe – Pure Culture (M) test is an advanced molecular diagnostic test used to identify and differentiate Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and Mycobacteria Other Than Tuberculosis (MOTT) from a pure culture. The test uses the Hains Line Probe Assay (LPA), a highly sensitive molecular technique that detects species-specific genetic markers, allowing rapid and accurate identification of mycobacterial species.

This test is recommended when acid-fast bacilli (AFB) have already been isolated in culture and further identification is required. An isolated colony on a culture plate is used for analysis. Accurate identification of MTB and MOTT is essential because these organisms require different clinical management and treatment strategies.
