CULTURE AEROBIC SPUTUM (M)

The Culture Aerobic Sputum (M) test is a laboratory test used to identify aerobic bacteria causing infections in the respiratory tract. A sputum (phlegm) sample collected from the lungs is cultured in a special growth medium to detect disease-causing microorganisms. Common bacteria identified through this test include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas species, and coliform bacilli. If bacterial growth is detected, an antibiotic susceptibility (sensitivity) test is performed to determine which antibiotics are most effective against the identified organism.

This test is commonly recommended for individuals with a persistent cough, fever, chest infection, excessive sputum production, difficulty breathing, or suspected bacterial pneumonia and other lower respiratory tract infections.
