Types of Widal Test

1. Slide test (Qualitative)

  • Rapid screening test
  • Shows presence or absence of agglutination

2. Tube test (Quantitative)

  • Measures antibody titre
  • Serial dilutions of serum are made
  • Highest dilution showing agglutination = Antibody titre

Symptoms of Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever (caused by Salmonella typhi) shows:
  • Prolonged fever (step-ladder pattern rise)
  • Headache
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Loss of appetite (anorexia)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Rose spots (pink rash on abdomen, sometimes)

Before the Test
